About Church of St Joseph the Betrothed of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Poręba

Neo-Gothic parish church in Poręba near Zawiercie, built in 1901 and consecrated in 1957.

The church in Poręba is a neo-Gothic parish church in the Zawiercie - Saints Peter and Paul deanery. It was built surprisingly quickly: the first Mass was held there less than seven months after work began.

Construction in 1901

Construction began in 1901 on Whit Sunday, and the first Mass was celebrated on 4 December of the same year. The church was built thanks to the efforts of Fr Franciszek Pędzich, a curate from Ciągowice, and the parishioners. It was blessed in the simple rite on 13 March 1908, the day an independent parish was established. The solemn consecration was performed on 9 June 1957 by Bishop Zdzisław Goliński.

Interior after 1957

After the consecration the church was gradually furnished, and after 1966 its decoration was changed. Later it went through further renovations, including repainting the interior, replacing the doors and buying new pews.
