An Evangelical Augsburg church from 1987-1995, with furnishings by the sculptor Czesław Dźwigaj and an organ by Ahlborn.
The Church of Sts Peter and Paul the Apostles in Tychy is the church of the Evangelical Augsburg parish, built in 1987-1995. It came about on the initiative of the Evangelicals of Tychy, who had had a parish since 1983.
In 1982 the parish assembly in Mikołów began efforts to obtain a preaching station and to build a church in Tychy. A year later the Consistory established a branch of the parish with its seat in Tychy, and in 1984 a hut stood on the plot, the former mother house of the deaconesses from Dzięgielów. Services and meetings were held in it. The town authorities issued the building permit in 1987, and the foundation stone was blessed at that time. After eight years of construction, while still unfinished, the church was consecrated on 25 September 1995 by the head of the Church, Bishop Jan Szarek.
The designers were Janusz Włodarczyk, Bożena Włodarczyk, and Jerzy and Marek Maniura. The altar, font, pulpit and lectern were designed by Sister Maristella of the Liturgical Apostolate in Częstochowa and made by the sculptor Czesław Dźwigaj. Against the altar window stands an old crucifix from 1906 from the Evangelical church in Woskowice Górne, which was demolished in 1947. The church has a two-manual organ by the German firm Ahlborn, funded by the Dutch choir Gemengd Streekkoor “O en U”.
Close by, less than a kilometre away, is the Tychy City Museum, and a little further on you will find the Tyskie Browarium.
