A brick Neo-Gothic-Modernist church from 1905-1909 in Bytom-Karb, with two towers 56 m high.
The Church of the Good Shepherd in Bytom-Karb is a brick hall church from the early 20th century, with two towers 56 metres high. Since 2014 it has been entered in the heritage register.
The design was made in 1904, construction was carried out in 1905-1908, and the church was blessed in 1909. The designer was the master builder Max Sliwka of Zabrze-Zaborze. In 1984-1986 a major renovation was carried out, because the structure had been affected by mining damage.
The style is described as Neo-Gothic-Modernist. The church has three aisles with a transept and a music choir, and two towers rise on the east side.
The Neo-Gothic high altar is carved in wood, polychromed and gilded; in the centre is a painting of Christ the Good Shepherd. In the transept stand the altars of St Anne and St Barbara. The interior is completed by stained glass, a carved pulpit and bas-reliefs of the Stations of the Cross. The organ from 1908, the work of the firm of Paul Berschdorf of Nysa, has 35 stops.
Close by lie the Szombierki Power Station and the Franciszek Kachel Park. In the centre of Bytom stands the Silesian Opera.
