A church from 1977-1981 in Węgierska Górka, whose foundation stone was laid by Cardinal Karol Wojtyła.
The Church of the Transfiguration in Węgierska Górka was built in 1977-1981. It belongs to the parish of St Catherine in Cięcina, and its form resembles three tents.
The foundation stone was laid on 18 June 1978 by Cardinal Karol Wojtyła, who then celebrated Mass and gave a sermon. Four months later he was elected pope. Earlier, during a canonical visitation of the parish in Cięcina in 1972, he had written in the visitation book remarks on the need for a new church in the village.
Inside there is a pipe organ, described as the largest in the Żywiec region, and stained-glass windows with scenes from the lives of Jesus and Mary. The main altar depicts the Transfiguration, and the two side altars are made of marble mosaic.
From Węgierska Górka it is a short way to the Golgotha of the Beskids, and in Przybędza and Żabnica there are further churches, for example the Church of Our Lady of Częstochowa in Żabnica.
