An active cemetery of the parish of St Nicholas in Bielsko-Biała, opened in 1884.
The Roman Catholic cemetery on Grunwaldzka street in Bielsko-Biała belongs to the parish of St Nicholas. The first burials took place here on 3 June 1884.
It was founded because space was running out in the cemetery by the Church of St Nicholas. The cemetery's website stresses that wars and changes of political systems disturbed the original layout and erased the memory of some of those buried, and the parish keeps a chronicle of the people buried.
In 1936 a monument to legionnaires killed in the First World War was erected; it stands in sector C3. In 1945 the cemetery was bombed by a Soviet aircraft: it destroyed many graves and the cemetery cross, which was later rebuilt. In 1953 a fire broke out on the grounds of the cemetery, in which two greenhouses and gardens burned down.
Closest is Juliusz Słowacki Park, and a little further on the Sułkowski Castle.
