About War Cemetery in Kroczyce

A First World War cemetery where 938 soldiers killed in November and December 1914 are buried.

The war cemetery in Kroczyce is a necropolis from the First World War in which 938 soldiers killed in November and December 1914 are buried. They were soldiers of the Austrian, German and Russian armies, among them Czechs, Poles, Slovaks and Ukrainians.

How the cemetery came about

The cemetery was made by the Austrian authorities in 1917-1918, and after the war the Polish authorities completed the work to a plan different from the original Austrian one. Remains exhumed from surrounding villages were moved to Kroczyce.

What it looks like

The site is rectangular, on the Bleszczowa hill. It is surrounded by a low fence of plastered wall with a concrete coping and a metal gate. The mass graves are outlined with concrete edges, and wooden oak crosses and iron Latin crosses stand on them.
