A pillar shrine commemorating the 1287 settlement between Duke Henry IV Probus and Bishop Thomas II.
The Concord Monument in Racibórz is a brick pillar shrine commemorating the settlement of 1287 between Henry IV Probus, Duke of Wrocław, and Thomas II, Bishop of Wrocław. It stands near Racibórz Castle, by a busy junction.
The dispute between the duke and the bishop concerned land taken by the Church and lasted sixteen years. It ended with a reconciliation concluded on 24 August 1287, which the monument commemorates.
It is a two-storey pillar in which, under a pavilion roof of tiles, stands a replica of a figure of St John of Nepomuk, and the whole is crowned with a cross. The original structure collapsed in the 18th century, the statue was set up again in the 19th century, and in 1994 the monument was renovated. In December 2010 it was moved a dozen or so metres away from the carriageway, because it was at risk of being hit by a vehicle.
