Roadside shrine with a three-metre cross in a brick niche, founded in 1899 on Kościelna Street in Chropaczów.
The Cross of the Lord's Passion stands in Chropaczów, a district of Świętochłowice, on Kościelna Street, between houses number 29 and 31. It was founded in 1899 by Józef and Monika Kostura.
The three-metre cross stands in a brick niche closed with an arch. Above it rises a two-storey superstructure with a broken roof topped with a simple cross. On the cross there is an inscription “Któryś dla nas był ukrzyżowany…” (“You who were crucified for us...”) with information about the founders and the year 1899, as well as a metal figure of Christ with an INRI plaque. Below it a figure of Our Lady of Lourdes was added. From the street the whole is protected by a metal grille, and steps lead to the niche.
Until 1912 May devotions were held at the cross, and during Corpus Christi processions it served as an open-air altar. The niche was repaired in 1999, and full conservation was carried out in 2015 by a conservation workshop. The shrine is entered in the heritage register under number B/24/01 (entry of 27 December 2001).
