About Donnersmarck Palace

a Neo-Gothic palace from 1856-1858 with a Lenné park, today the Silesian Culture Centre

Donnersmarck Palace in Nakło Śląskie is a Neo-Gothic residence from the second half of the 19th century, entered in the heritage register. Since 2013 it has housed the Silesian Culture Centre, with a museum, exhibition and educational function.

History and architecture

Construction began in 1856 on the initiative of Count Hugo I Henckel von Donnersmarck and was completed in 1858. In 1891 the palace was extended by Lazarus IV. It was designed in the style of English Tudor Neo-Gothic: a two-storey building on a rectangular plan with a polygonal tower on the east side. The Viennese architects Johann Romano von Ringe and August Schwendenwein von Lanauberg are named as possible authors of the design. The brick building was entered in the heritage register in 1966.

The park

The complex is surrounded by a park designed by Peter Joseph Lenné in the mid-19th century, with old trees, three ornamental entrance gates and farm buildings. The palace is owned by the Tarnowskie Góry County Office.
