An Evangelical cemetery from 1780, closed down in 1967; today a green with old trees and a monument commemorating the necropolis.
The former Evangelical cemetery on Piłsudskiego Street in Tarnowskie Góry was closed down in 1967. Today what remains of the necropolis is a green, old trees and a monument recalling the former purpose of the place.
The cemetery was founded on 19 August 1780. The last burial in its front part took place in 1934. In 1967 the necropolis was closed and its wall was pulled down.
Those buried included Pastor Johann Wilhelm Pohle (died 1801), Major General Arvid von Carnall and the Privy Mining Councillor August de Boscamp-Lasopolski, as well as members of the Boehm, Sedlaczek and Lukaschik families.
On the site of the front part a green with lawns, paths and benches was laid out. The old trees covering the former necropolis are listed in the municipal register of monuments. Since 2007 a monument commemorating the cemetery has stood here, in the form of a gate made of three granite blocks. The eastern part became the athletics track of one of the secondary schools. The town museum, the Museum in Tarnowskie Góry, lies about 400 m away.
