Concrete and ceramic sculpture by Jerzy Kwiatkowski from 1963 in Grunwaldzki Square in Koszutka, with a mosaic recreated in 2016.
The “Family” (Rodzina) monument stands in Grunwaldzki Square in the Katowice district of Koszutka, at the intersection of Sokolska and Gustaw Morcinek streets. The sculpture from 1963 shows a family of three: the parents hold a child up in the air.
The author of the sculpture is Jerzy Egon Kwiatkowski. The monument was made of reinforced concrete and glazed ceramics. The original design of the mosaic that covers the figures was prepared by Lidia Kwiatkowska, the creator's wife.
Before the renovation the sculpture was a uniform beige colour. In 2016 the mosaic was recreated by the Social Mosaic Workshop from Lublin, and the monument regained its colourful surface according to the original design.
