Former Ficinus Mine Complex

Siemianowice Śląskie
About Former Ficinus Mine Complex

Remains of the Ficinus mine in Siemianowice Śląskie: former mine buildings on Składowa Street, today a repair plant.

The former Ficinus Mine Complex in Siemianowice Śląskie is what remains of a mining plant whose Ficinus shaft was one of the main shafts of the Huta Laury mine. The mine was closed in 1933.

How Ficinus came to be

The Ficinus plant belonged to the Henckel family, and later to the United Königs- und Laurahütte concern. The shaft stood in the northern part of today's Marii Konopnickiej Street. In 1872 it was connected to a station on the standard-gauge line of the Right-Oder Railway, and a network of narrow-gauge lines served the surrounding shafts.

What remains

Of the former buildings, those on Składowa Street have survived, and today they house the “Elektrocarb” Electrical Machinery Repair Works. At Składowa 3 stands the former directors' building of the Laurahütte mine from the Ficinus area. The complex is counted among the industrial heritage sites.

Practical information

  • The site lies in the area of Składowa, Konopnickiej and Szymborskiej streets in Siemianowice Śląskie.
  • The buildings are used by a company, so this is a site to be viewed from the outside; the rules for entering the grounds are worth checking before a visit.
  • Nearby lies Silesian Park.
