A historic park from the early 20th century in Michałkowice, with a pond, the Rheinbaben palace complex and a grotto.
Górnik Park in Michałkowice, a district of Siemianowice Śląskie, is a historic park on Oświęcimska Street, laid out at the beginning of the 20th century. It used to be called the Rheinbaben Park, and its centre is a pond fed with water from the former Michał mine.
The Michałkowice Pond goes back to the 18th century, and today it is an artificial reservoir fed with water from the former Michał mine. In the park stands the Rheinbaben palace complex, known as the Little Castle (Zameczek), and next to it the house of the forester and gardener, and a fountain.
A curiosity is the grotto, that is a rock garden built of stones and earth. There is also a kindergarten with a playground on the grounds of the park.
Pedunculate and sessile oaks, horse chestnuts, Norway maples and beeches grow here. Among the animals you can meet squirrels, hares, pheasants, magpies, starlings, blackbirds, orioles, nightingales and foxes, among others.
