About Hantke Villa in Częstochowa

Bernard Hantke's Neo-Baroque villa of 1900-1903 in the Raków district of Częstochowa, now the seat of the Municipal Cultural Centre, with a park.

Hantke Villa (Pałacyk Hantkego) is a Neo-Baroque villa in the Raków district of Częstochowa. It was built in 1900-1903 for Bernard Hantke, owner of the nearby "Częstochowa" steelworks, to a design of 1898. It is entered in the heritage register.

A residence by the steelworks

Besides the owner's house, the complex included the steelworks and houses for its workers. The villa was built in the French Neo-Baroque style, and the staircase is decorated with cast-iron ornaments. Immediately after construction a two-hectare park with rare trees and shrubs was laid out beside it. After the Second World War the works' cultural centre was housed here. In 1973-1978 a swimming pool building and a cinema were added, and some of the decoration was removed. The renovation completed in the summer of 2007 preserved the building and partly restored its original form.

Today

The villa houses the Municipal Cultural Centre, so the interiors are used for classes and events, and the park can be seen during a visit.
