Kapelusz Exhibition Hall

Promenada gen. Jerzego Ziętka 4, Chorzów
About Kapelusz Exhibition Hall

Modernist exhibition hall from 1968 in the Silesian Park, with a form resembling a hat.

Kapelusz (“the Hat”) is a modernist exhibition hall in the Silesian Park in Chorzów, opened in 1968. Its form resembles a lady's hat, hence the name, and the hall's nickname is the “Flower Hall”.

Construction and authors

The hall was built in 1966-1968 to a design by the architect Jerzy Gottfried; the structural engineer was Włodzimierz Feiferek. After a fire it was rebuilt in 1982-1988 according to Gottfried's reconstruction design. The building has an area of about 2,200 m² and is 15 m high, and since 2016 it has been in the heritage register.

What it was used for

The hall was a year-round venue intended for fairs, conferences, concerts and exhibitions. Among other things it hosted the spring flower and garden show and the autumn horticultural art show. In May 2014 the hall was closed when a crack was noticed in one of the main steel girders supporting the roof.
