Church of the Saviour in Dębowiec

Dębowiec
About Church of the Saviour in Dębowiec

A Lutheran filial church in Dębowiec, extended in 2000 from a cemetery chapel of 1869.

The Church of the Saviour in Dębowiec belongs to the Lutherans: it is a branch of the Evangelical-Augsburg Parish in Skoczów, in the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Poland. It stands in the grounds of a cemetery, and its present form is the result of several stages of extension.

From chapel to church

The first building appeared in 1869 as a small cemetery chapel with a bell. In 1912 it was replaced by a new one, three times larger. The organ was installed in 1937 thanks to funds raised by the Polish Evangelical Youth Circle. Only in 2000 was the chapel extended to the status of a church, and the number of seats was increased from 170 to 230. In 2006 a parish house was built next to the church.

Parish life

Services have been held here since 2001. In the area, in Skoczów and the neighbouring villages, you will find more places of worship, for example the Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit in Simoradz, as well as the Gustaw Morcinek Museum in Skoczów.
