Kozubek Pond

Katowice
About Kozubek Pond

A pond of 0.72 ha on the Witosa estate in Katowice, renovated and reopened in September 2023.

Kozubek is a small pond in the north-western part of Katowice, on the Witosa estate, on Obroki Street. It was created as a reservoir connected with a mine and since 2023 has been a renovated recreation area.

Where the pond came from

The reservoir of 0.72 ha was created artificially for the needs of the Kleofas mine. It is named after the mine foreman Antoni Kozubek. After the mine closed in 2004 the area was left without a function, until a revitalisation chosen in the civic budget vote in 2021.

What is by the water

The official opening after the redevelopment took place on 13 September 2023. Around the pond a recreation zone was laid out with exercise equipment and a playground, as well as a terrace of 100 m² with deckchairs. There are also benches, bicycle stands, litter bins and park lighting. The pond has no inflowing or outflowing watercourses.

Further on

From Kozubek it is not far, about 2.6 km, to the Silesian Zoological Garden, and a little further lies the Silesian Park.
