An open-air display of boundary stones, a plaque and gravestones in Kościuszko Park, run by the Museum of Katowice History.
The Lapidarium in Katowice is a small display of stone relics of the old town, set up in Kościuszko Park, next to the Church of St Michael the Archangel. It is run by the Museum of Katowice History.
The lapidarium was solemnly opened and blessed on 29 April 2009. It brings together several objects: a sandstone boundary stone from the Upper Silesian industrial district, a granite road stone found in 2003 on Graniczna street, and a plaque from the cemetery of the victims of the Silesian Uprisings in Janów, discovered in 2008 in Mysłowice. There are also two gravestones: that of the chief accountant Carl Peschl, found in 2008 in Józefowiec, and that of the peasant Szczepan Gaida of Dąb, moved from the cemetery on Bracka street.
The lapidarium lies in Kościuszko Park, so it is easy to combine with a walk in the park. The set of objects is sometimes rearranged during conservation work on the church complex, so before a visit it is worth checking the current state on the website of the Museum of Katowice History.
