Brick Lutheran church from 1853 with a Neo-Romanesque tower, built after the fire of an earlier church.
The Lutheran (Evangelical Augsburg) church on ulica Miejska in Rybnik is a brick church of the Lutheran parish, standing near the market square. The building is listed in the heritage register.
The first church was built in 1791 to a design by Franciszek Ilgner in the former castle net house, where fishing nets had earlier been dried and stored. It burnt down after five years, and the rebuilt church served the Lutherans until 1853, when a fire destroyed it again. In the same year the brick church that stands today was built. The Neo-Romanesque tower by the north façade was added in 1875.
The interior has a single tier of galleries supported on square pillars, a wooden ceiling and semicircular windows. The furnishings are modest but retain features of the Late Baroque. In the pulpit altar hangs a copy of Bernhard Plockhorst's painting “Christ and the Prodigal Son”, made in the second half of the 19th century. Nearby are also the Museum in Rybnik and the Basilica of St Anthony.
