About Manor House in Palowice

Neoclassical manor house from the early 19th century with an outbuilding and a chapel of St John of Nepomuk, listed in the heritage register.

The manor house in Palowice is a Neoclassical building from the early 19th century, standing on ulica Wiejska in the centre of the village, on the edge of a rise. Single-storey, built on a rectangular plan on a high foundation wall, it has a mansard roof, and the upper part is crowned with a triangular pediment. A flight of steps leads up to it from a spacious courtyard at the front, and the north façade is flanked by two octagonal turrets with tent roofs.

History of the manor house

Around 1720 the Palowice estate belonged to Teresa Promnitz. The manor house was built in the 19th century, and sources differ on its investor: Franz von Winckler, who bought the estate in 1842, or Emanuel von Tluck in 1860-1880. The descendants of the Tiele-Winckler family were owners until 1945 and used the building as a hunting lodge. After the war it housed, among other things, a kindergarten, a post office, a café and the seat of the municipal national council, and most recently an agricultural cooperative. Since the 1990s the building has stood empty.

Interiors, outbuilding and park

The interior layout is symmetrical, with three bays, a spacious entrance hall and a Neoclassical wall cupboard. Historic tiled stoves have survived, and the cellars have sail vaults. To the south of the manor house stands a Neoclassical outbuilding from the first half of the 19th century. The manor house is surrounded by the remains of a park, on the edge of which stands a brick chapel of St John of Nepomuk with a ridge turret in which hangs a bell from the church in Woszczyce, demolished in 1880. The manor house with its park and outbuilding was entered in the heritage register in 1966.
