A neo-Gothic Evangelical Augsburg church from 1897-1898, one of the largest Protestant churches in Upper Silesia.
The Martin Luther Church on Powstańców Street is the church of the Evangelical Augsburg parish in Chorzów, built of brick in the neo-Gothic style. It has been in the heritage register since 2009.
Work lasted from 1897 to 1898, and the foundation stone was laid on 21 March 1897. The dedication took place on 10 November 1898, on Martin Luther's birthday. The design was by Ludwig Böttger. The church is laid out as a Latin cross and is a hall church, with a very wide main nave and narrow aisles. The transept and aisles are divided by galleries into two storeys, which allows the church to hold about 1,300 people and makes it one of the largest Protestant churches in Upper Silesia. The single tower has a clock by Weule, and beneath it is a pointed-arch porch with a double portal.
The neo-Gothic altar with a carved cross was made by the Berlin artist Rudolf Herzog. The stained glass, both ornamental and figurative, comes from the F. Müller workshop in Quedlinburg. The organ by Schlag & Söhne from 1898 has 28 stops and has survived in its original state; during the First World War only the front pipes were requisitioned, and they were later replaced with zinc ones. The larger of the bells, made of cast steel, was cast in 1901 at Bochumer Verein.
