Mieroszewski Manor House in Sosnowiec

The Mieroszewski Manor House stands on a hill in Zagórze, a district of Sosnowiec, on Szpitalna Street. It is a two-storey Classicist building linked with the Mieroszewski family, the former owners of these lands.

History of the manor house

The heritage register dates the building to 1790, while historical accounts link the present building to around 1840 and the initiative of Count Józef Mieroszewski. It replaced an earlier wooden manor house, and beams from its demolition were used in the construction, especially in the roof structure. The design is attributed to Franciszek Maria Lanci. It was originally a single-storey manor house; in 1876 a storey was added and two gables were added to the façade. Among the former owners are also named Jadwiga Mieroszewska née Siemieńska, Jacek Siemieński and Christian Gustav von Kramsta.

Appearance

The building has five axes, with a three-axis projection in the middle. From the north, on the front side, one enters through a porch with two columns supporting a massive balcony. The roof is hipped and turns into two gables. In the 1970s the eastern annexe was removed, which gave the building symmetry. Until 2023 an art conservation workshop was housed here.

Park and surroundings

A vestigial park of about 2.5 hectares has survived by the manor house, with trees recognised as natural monuments. The site neighbours the city hospital. From Zagórze it is close to the Środula Ski Slope, and in the centre of Sosnowiec is the Museum in Sosnowiec.
