About Monument to the Victims of the Częstochowa Ghetto

A monument on Strażacka Street, on the former railway ramp from which Częstochowa Jews were deported to Treblinka in 1942; designed by Samuel Willenberg, 2009.

A monument on the former loading ramp

The monument stands on Strażacka Street in Częstochowa, on a square next to the former freight siding of Warta station and the railway ramp. In 1942, transports of Częstochowa Jews to the Treblinka extermination camp left from here. The site is one of the stops on a trail devoted to the city's Jewish heritage, and the ghetto itself is covered in a separate entry: Częstochowa Ghetto.

Author and date

The monument was designed by the sculptor Samuel Willenberg (1923-2016), a native of Częstochowa who survived the Treblinka camp and took part in the uprising there on 2 August 1943. The monument was erected in 2009.

Practical information

The monument stands on an open square, with no admission charge. For directions and the surroundings, the map of Częstochowa's Jewish heritage trail is helpful, as it lists the other places connected with the history of the city's Jewish community.
