Museum of the region's sacred art in the seminary building on św. Barbary Street, opened in 1997.
The Museum of the Archdiocese of Częstochowa collects the sacred art of the region. It is housed in the building of the Higher Theological Seminary at ul. św. Barbary 21 in Częstochowa and has been operating since 1997.
The exhibits include sculptures, among them a figure of the Madonna and Child dated from 1430, paintings with images of Christ and the Virgin Mary, liturgical vessels and church vestments. One painting probably came from the hand of Stanisław Wyspiański and arrived here from a church in Lviv. The museum also has a collection of commemorative coins and medals and shows temporary exhibitions of contemporary religious artists.
The collecting of historic items was initiated by Bishop Teodor Kubina, and the museum was blessed in 1997 by Archbishop Stanisław Nowak.
The most important destination in the city is Jasna Góra, and among other museums this one is worth pairing with the Częstochowa Museum.
