A Neo-Gothic palace from 1864 in Modzurów, surrounded by a landscape park with a mausoleum and a small chapel.
The palace in Modzurów, a village in the Rudnik municipality near Racibórz, is a Neo-Gothic residence from 1864. It was built by the von König family, and the building is surrounded by a landscape park with hornbeam avenues and historic features.
The building is of brick, in the Neo-Gothic style. In the front wall a projection stands out, topped with a pediment bearing the von König family coat of arms. The interiors have partly preserved their former decor, and the most attention is drawn by the stained-glass window in the vault of the hall, richly decorated with plant motifs.
The palace is surrounded by a landscape park with a hornbeam avenue and exotic tree specimens. In its grounds stand a mausoleum from the mid-19th century in the late Classicist style, today in ruins, and a Neo-Gothic chapel from 1890, into which stone tracery from the window of the former church in Modzurów, from around 1300, was built. The gravestone of Victor von König has also survived.
The palace is used by a plant breeding station, so its interiors are not open to the public as in a museum. The park and façade can usually be viewed from the outside, but it is worth checking the rules for entering the grounds before your visit.
In the Rudnik municipality there are several similar residences, among them the Palace in Jastrzębie and the Palace in Rudnik. A little further on stands the Palace in Sławików.
