A 4.66 ha city park in Zawiercie from the 1930s, with a copy of the chapel of Our Lady the Spinner.
Tadeusz Kościuszko Park in Zawiercie is a city park with an area of 4.66 ha, one of three parks in the city. It was laid out in the 1930s, and today it contains a copy of a wayside chapel.
In the 1930s the park had a pond and a Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. During the war the Germans banned Poles from entering Mickiewicz Park and set aside a small square for them within Kościuszko Park. After the war an obelisk dedicated to Soviet soldiers was put up here, and was removed after the political transformation. In 1937 the first pre-war seat of the scout districts of the ZHP (Polish Scouting Association) in Zawiercie was built in the park, and it no longer exists.
In the mid-1980s a copy of the chapel of Our Lady the Spinner (Matka Boska Prządka) was erected in the park. The original had stood since 1894 on ulica Piłsudskiego and was later demolished.
Deciduous trees predominate in the park: large-leaved and small-leaved lime, maple, ash, elm, beech and alder. European larch, yew and northern white cedar grow here too, along with shrubs such as forsythia and mock orange.
Near the centre of Zawiercie are the brine graduation tower and the synagogue.
