A 5.4 ha park in a former coal opencast pit, with a summer swimming pool, a fitness park and a playground.
Niwka Park is a small city park of 5.4 ha in the Dańdówka district of Sosnowiec, at the junction of Kalinowa and Wojska Polskiego streets. Most of the area lies in a former hard coal opencast pit, where the raw material was extracted in the interwar period.
The park’s greenery is mainly ruderal and synanthropic vegetation. The upper layer is dominated by self-sown silver birch, black locust and balsam poplar. In the neighbourhood traces of the former industry remain: railway embankments and viaducts and the ruins of mining powder-store buildings.
The park has a summer swimming pool at Wojska Polskiego 181, run by the Sosnowiec MOSiR (Sports and Recreation Centre). There are also a Fitness Park and a playground for children.
