A district park in Częstochowa from 2002, created on land taken over for a housing estate of the 1980s.
Parkitka Park is a city park in Częstochowa, in the Częstochówka-Parkitka district. It was created in 2002 on an area of 1.8 ha, on land taken over by the city for the construction of a housing estate in the 1980s.
Not all of the facilities accompanying the estate were built, and part of the land served for almost ten years as an illegal dump. In 1998 a district park with swings, sports pitches and a fountain was planned between ulica Bialska and ulica Okulickiego. The greenery, that is 117 trees and 7,575 shrubs, was planted in 2001, and the park was opened in 2002.
The fate of the park was complicated by lawsuits brought by the former owners of expropriated plots. Before 2014 part of the area returned to private hands, which threatened to split the park into pieces, and residents of the district protested. In 2016 a new local development plan was adopted, and in 2015-2018 the city bought back plots with a total area of 0.3635 ha. A later renovation and upgrading of the park was submitted to the participatory budget.
