Zielona Park

Dąbrowa Górnicza
About Zielona Park

A city park of 67 hectares on the site of a former oak forest, renovated in 2018.

Zielona Park is an extensive city park in the Korzeniec district of Dąbrowa Górnicza, covering 67 hectares. It grew up on the site of a former oak forest and has been owned by the city from the start.

Where the park came from

The park began with a road to Łagisza built in 1932, which linked the area with the town centre. The city equipped the oak forest with paths and maintained its central part. After the Second World War residents rebuilt and improved the whole park through their own work.

Former sights and renovation

In the 1960s the park had a small city zoo with brown bears, deer, foxes and birds, a lake for canoeing and an outdoor pool measuring 20 by 50 metres, now closed. The mini zoo operated from 2004 until the end of 2011. In 2018 the park was renovated, modelled on its layout from the 1930s, and a fountain with night lighting was renovated too.

Nature

The trees growing here include birches and oaks. Among the birds, robins, chaffinches, great tits and several species of thrush have been recorded.
