The central square of Ligota, with an illuminated granite globe, a playground and a dog run.
Plac Miast Partnerskich (Partner Cities Square) in the Katowice district of Ligota-Panewniki, between ul. Koszalińska, ul. Słupska and ul. Świdnicka, is colloquially called the central square of Ligota by residents. It is distinguished by a granite globe showing the directions to Katowice's partner cities.
The square was created in the second half of the 20th century as an unnamed neighbourhood green space. It was given its name by a resolution of the Katowice City Council of 31 May 2010. The same year the square was modernised.
After the modernisation a children's playground and a dog run were created, new paving of alternating granite and concrete setts was laid, and grass and trees were planted. In the central place stands an illuminated granite globe, around which the directions and distances to all of Katowice's partner cities are marked. The kerbs were lowered so that prams can enter the square.
