A Pietà in Szczyrk with an inscription in honour of soldiers of the 8th District of the NSZ, the "Bartek" group, who fought in 1944-1947.
The Pietà at Beskidzka 107 in Szczyrk commemorates soldiers of the 8th District of the National Armed Forces (NSZ), the "Bartek" group. It is a monument devoted to the post-war anti-communist underground.
The inscription on the monument says that it is a tribute to the soldiers of the 8th District of the NSZ, the "Bartek" group, sons of this land, who fought for a free Poland in 1944-1947. A second inscription refers to the anniversary of the murder of the sons of the Szczyrk Land from the "Bartek" unit by the Security Office of People's Poland.
"Bartek" was a partisan unit of Captain Henryk Flame. Edward Biesok of Mazańcowice belonged to it; he took part in the gathering of partisans on Barania Góra in May 1946 and in the NSZ parade in Wisła. He was killed in 1946 in a clash with a militia platoon from Katowice on Błatnia.
