An obelisk commemorating the Silesian insurgents, successor to a monument demolished in 1939.
The monument to the Heroes of the Silesian Uprisings stands in a square on Zamkowa Street in the Janów-Nikiszowiec district of Katowice. It is an obelisk with an eagle and inscriptions on the plinth, which replaced an older monument from 1922.
The pre-war monument was built in 1922 opposite the Janów municipal office building, on the site where the hospital on Szopienicka Street stands today, not far from the school playing field. In September 1939 the Germans demolished it. After the Second World War the new obelisk was put up in a different place, in a square on Zamkowa Street.
In 2012 the square where the monument stands was named the Janów Group Artists Square.
