A Neo-Gothic viewing tower from 1867-1868 in the forest on Grodzisko in Wodzisław Śląski, rebuilt after a fire.
The Romantic Tower, also called the Knights’ Tower (Baszta Rycerska), is a Neo-Gothic viewing tower in the forest on Grodzisko hill in Wodzisław. The brick structure is about 20 m high and has been open to visitors since 2021.
The tower was erected in 1867-1868. The founder was Edward Brauns, then owner of the town and a lover of Romanticism, who died in 1881. In 1925 the structure and the surrounding land were bought by Stefan Krzystek and Jan Kowol, who set up a viewpoint and a restaurant here. The tower is a monument entered in the register under numbers 757/66 of 1966 and A/535/2019 of 2019. The register describes its style as Neo-Gothic and its material as brick.
The tower was renovated in 1991, but burned down in 2004. Reconstruction lasted from 2012 to 2021. In 2021 the viewpoint was opened to visitors as part of the Silesianka project, which covers the viewing towers of the Cieszyn Silesia Euroregion.
It is about 1.5 km from here to the town centre. Nearest are the Dietrichstein Palace and the Market Square in Wodzisław Śląski.
