About Spa Park

A park by the spa in Goczałkowice-Zdrój, a spa town founded in 1862 around a brine borehole.

The Spa Park in Goczałkowice-Zdrój is the greenery of a spa, one of two places in the Silesian Voivodeship with spa status (the other is Ustroń). The spa has a history of more than 160 years, and the park was one of the facilities that the spa's co-founder counted among the amenities for patients.

The spa and the park

In 1856 the Prussian mining authority, searching for salt, struck brine at Goczałkowice. In 1860-1862 the first spa buildings were built, and the first treatment season began in June 1862. Adolf Babel, the spa's first doctor, listed among the investments improving the conditions of stay hotels, a spa house, a pump room, a steam bath, a boarding house for children, a spa park, a music pavilion and a bowling alley. Of that spa development from the second half of the 19th century, the old pump room and the Górnik and Wrzos pavilions, among others, have been entered in the heritage register.

Next to the park

Less than 300 metres from the park there is an inhalatorium with a brine graduation tower, described separately as the Inhalatorium (Brine Graduation Tower). The spa treats orthopaedic and trauma conditions and rheumatic diseases, among others. Nearby also lies Pszczyna, with Pszczyna Castle about five kilometres away.
