Mountain hut at Stecówka in the Silesian Beskids, built in 1934 beside the Main Beskid Trail.
The mountain hut at Stecówka stands in the Silesian Beskids, in Istebna, on the Main Beskid Trail. It was built in 1934 and has served walkers ever since as a base for routes along the surrounding ridges.
The building was put up by Marta and Michał Legierski. It was a two-storey timber structure on a stone foundation, with 47 beds, 20 of them in proper bunks. It housed a ski and tourist station of the Kraków Society for the Promotion of Skiing.
During the Second World War the hut operated until 1942. The owners supported the resistance, for which Michał Legierski was sent to the concentration camp in Oświęcim; he returned to Stecówka in 1945. After the war the hut resumed operation and was extended in the 1960s. Another rebuilding began after 2000 and included a new masonry part.
Close by stands the Church of Our Lady of Fatima in Istebna, and the trail continues towards Barania Góra and the PTTK mountain hut at Przysłop.
