“Lasek” Student Tourist Hut - the Electricians' Hut

Pewel Wielka 4, Pewel Wielka
About “Lasek” Student Tourist Hut - the Electricians' Hut

A student hut just below the Łosek summit in the Makowski Beskids, standing by the trails of the Jałowiec Range since 1971.

The “Lasek” Student Tourist Hut (Studenckie Schronisko Turystyczne “Lasek”), formerly the Electricians' Hut (Chatka Elektryków), lies just below the summit of Łosek (Lasek, Łazek, 868 m above sea level) in the Laskowa Range, between the villages of Koszarawa and Pewel Wielka. According to Kondracki's regionalisation this is the Makowski Beskids, but on maps and in guidebooks the hut is often counted as part of the Żywiec Beskids.

History of the hut

The building is more than a hundred years old. In 1971 members of the “ELEKT” tourist club of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice took over the old cottage and began adapting it for tourists. Until the end of the 1990s it operated as a student hut managed by the university. In 2015 a private owner bought the property and leased it out. From October 2023 to April 2024 the hut was closed, after which a group of enthusiasts reopened it and set up the “Lasek” Association named after Leś Stasiak, which runs it to this day.

Trails

The hut stands on the yellow PTTK trail towards Koszarawa. From the Przysłop - Sopotnia Wielka pass this trail leads from Przyborów (about 1 hour 45 minutes to the hut), and to Koszarawa it takes about 1 hour 15 minutes. Two walking “hut trails” also lead to the hut: a blue one from Koszarawa (about 30 minutes, from the Koszarawa szkoła bus stop) and a red one from Pewel Wielka (about 1 hour, starting at the railway station). From the hut it is convenient to set off into the Jałowiec Range, for example to Lachów Groń, Czerniawa Sucha and Jałowiec, and also towards Pilsko and Babia Góra. Nearby is Hala Janoszkowa, and in the valley the inn in Jeleśnia.

Conditions

The hut has electricity and running water, a kitchen with a gas stove for guests to use, a common room, a toilet and a bathroom with a shower. It does not run a restaurant or sell food, so you need to bring your own supplies. It nominally sleeps 40 people in five bedrooms, one of them a large room in the attic. You need your own sleeping bag.
