An open-air museum in Ochaby Wielkie: a cottage, stable, coach house, barn and windmill, with a collection of old tools and horse-drawn vehicles.
The Traditional Farmstead, known as the Ochaby Open-Air Museum, is an educational farm and village museum in Ochaby Wielkie near Skoczów. Its creators want to share memories and the atmosphere of the old village, and the farmstead is made up of collections gathered over several decades.
The farmstead includes a stable, a coach house, a barn, a shelter, a windmill and a cottage. The buildings display equipment, tools and devices from households, farms and fisheries, as well as objects used by craftsmen, from different periods of history. A separate collection consists of historic horse-drawn vehicles and cars.
The open-air museum holds demonstrations of old-style ploughing and workshops on making kites from wood and paper. A maze has been laid out in a maize plantation. The farm also runs educational programmes for groups: classes on growing and caring for plants, on traditional field work with a demonstration of old machines at work (a horse-drawn plough, a horse-drawn mower, a tractor from the 1930s, a sheaf binder, a buggy), on the everyday life of ancestors in the kitchen and living room of the cottage, and games and play without electricity. The classes are designed for groups of fifteen to twenty-five people, mainly pre-school children and school pupils. In bad weather the classes are held indoors.
