About Ochaby Stud Farm

A working stud farm of Anglo-Arab and Małopolska horses in Ochaby Wielkie, with a horse boarding yard and a sports section.

The Ochaby Stud Farm in Ochaby Wielkie near Skoczów is a working stud farm that breeds Anglo-Arab horses of French origin, Małopolska horses and warmblood horses. It also runs a horse boarding yard.

Where the stud farm came from

The stud farm's grounds are a former manor farm from the end of the 18th century, called Auer Hof, belonging to the Cieszyn Chamber. Until 1920 the estate was owned by the Habsburg dukes of Cieszyn. The stud farm is the legal successor of the Pruchna Stud Farm, established in 1952 to breed Anglo-Arab horses.

Horses of this breed were brought to Poland from France in 1947. Of these, 53 mares and 3 stallions were later sent to the farm in Ochaby. After 1989 the Pruchna and Ochaby stud farms were separated, and the Ochaby one remained the property of the Agricultural Property Agency of the State Treasury. In 2012 it was bought by private owners, who announced they would continue breeding.

Breeding and sport

Breeding is based on 50 broodmares. Since 1993 Anglo-Arab mares have also been paired with stallions of sport lines, in order to produce a modern sport horse. Horses from Ochaby compete in races, including at the Partynice track in Wrocław, and in eventing, also abroad. The stallion Dekalog was part of the Olympic team at the Athens Games in 2004.

The stud farm's website lists horse breeding, a boarding yard and a sports department, including LKJ Ochaby. The stud farm also breeds fish and produces feed.

Next door are Dream Park Ochaby and the open-air museum in Ochaby. Dream Park was created on the grounds of the former Equestrian Sports Centre, sold in 2010.
