About Transfiguration Cemetery in Żywiec

The Transfiguration Cemetery on Komonieckiego Street is the oldest working necropolis in Żywiec. It was established in the early 18th century and still accepts burials today, and it is entered in the heritage register.

Beginnings

The cemetery was founded by the Żywiec reeve Andrzej Komoniecki, who built a chapel here in 1705. The heritage register dates the site to 1701. The cemetery chapel is the Church of the Transfiguration, and the necropolis itself was enlarged several times. It is managed by the parish of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
