A Katowice cultural institution with a multimedia exhibition on figures important to Upper Silesia, a crypt of bishops and a viewing terrace.
The Upper Silesian Pantheon in Katowice is a cultural institution that tells the story of the last hundred years of Upper Silesia through the lives of people important to the region. The exhibition is located next to the Cathedral of Christ the King.
According to the institution's website, these are the Silesian insurgents, victims of totalitarianisms, people of the Church, and representatives of science, culture and sport. The profiles are presented at multimedia stations with biographies, films and photographs. The list of people commemorated is open and is meant to grow.
The total space, including the viewing terrace, is 2,100 m², of which 1,400 m² is taken up by the exhibition. The visit begins in the hall of the winners of the "Lux ex Silesia" award, leads through the halls of people of science, culture and sport, heroes and people facing totalitarianisms, and community activists, up to the halls devoted to the clergy. The penultimate one is the burial crypt of the bishops of Katowice, and the visit ends in the hall of saints and blessed.
From the exhibition level you can go up to a terrace with a panorama of Katowice. A small café, "Panteonka", operates next to the exhibition.
The Pantheon is a joint cultural institution of the Silesian Voivodeship, the Archdiocese of Katowice and the City of Katowice.
