About Zagroń Complex in Istebna

A ski resort in Istebna on the northern slope of Zagroń, with a chairlift and five downhill runs.

The Zagroń Complex is a ski resort in Istebna, in the Silesian Beskids, on the Olza river. It lies on the northern slope of Zagroń, a hill about 684 m above sea level, about 500 m west of Złoty Groń. In winter a chairlift and five runs operate here, and the complex also includes a water park and a spa.

Lifts and runs

The resort has three lifts: a four-seat chairlift 840 m long with a vertical drop of 147 m, a 270 m platter lift, and a 110 m conveyor lift for children. The chairlift's capacity is 2400 people per hour, and the ride takes about seven minutes.

Five runs with a total length of 3.7 km have been marked out on the slope. Runs 1 and 2 are blue, about 900 m long with an average gradient of 16 percent, and are lit, groomed and fitted with artificial snow. Runs 4 and 5 vary in difficulty, red and blue, and their upper part is not lit. Between them there is a snow park, while run 3, green, runs along the platter lift and is intended for beginners.

What there is off the slope

The resort has a ski and snowboard school and equipment rental shops, a car park and catering points: the "Zagroń" restaurant for about 200 people with a guesthouse, a shelter and a highlander cabin.

The complex also includes the "Meridian" Health and Energy Centre and the "Olza" Water Park, with a winding slide, a jacuzzi, saunas, a salt-and-rock grotto and a climbing wall. The description of the facilities may be out of date, so check the current offer with the operator.

How the resort developed

Before 2009 a two-person T-bar lift called "Marek" operated here. The present chairlift came into use in 2009, and the Meridian Centre was opened in 2011. The operator and owner of the resort is the company Linter Tour S.A. of Istebna.

Istebna has several other ski facilities: the Złoty Groń Ski Resort, a small slope on Kubalonka with a platter lift, and the Chichot lift 500 m east of Złoty Groń.
