A square in the Katowice city centre on Sokolska street, rebuilt in 2011, with rainbow benches and fountains.
Friends of Miskolc Square (Plac Przyjaciół z Miszkolca) lies in the Katowice city centre, on Sokolska street. It is named after the Hungarian city of Miskolc, which is a partner city of Katowice.
The square was laid out in the second half of the 20th century. The name “Friends of Miskolc Green” was introduced by a resolution of the Katowice City Council of 22 June 2009, and on 26 March 2014 it was changed to “square”. Among the proposals was also the name Miskolc Green.
The first plans for rebuilding were drawn up in 2006, and modernisation work lasted from 1 June to mid-December 2011. It was then that rainbow benches designed by Karina Gniłka and fountains appeared on the square.
The square adjoins the Haperowiec and school buildings. Its southern part is bounded by the river Rawa. Nearby stand the Stanisław Wyspiański Silesian Theatre and the Monument to the Silesian Insurgents.
