Hrobacza Łąka Tourist and Retreat House

The Hrobacza Łąka Tourist and Retreat House is a mountain hut in the Little Beskids, below the summit of Chrobacza Łąka, in Międzybrodzie Bialskie in Żywiec County. You will also meet it under the names of the hut on Chrobacza Łąka and on Hrobacza Łąka.

From a private hut to a retreat house

The building was put up in the 1930s as a private investment by the siblings Zofia, Michalina and Jan Dorzak. After the war it remained in the family's hands, and a branch of the Polish Tatra Society, later the PTTK of Bielsko-Biała, set up a tourist station in it with 15 beds.

In 1973 the previous owners sold the building, which the new owner ran together with a production cooperative from Stara Wieś until 1991. During that time the building was extended and renovated. In 1991 the hut was bought by the S.O.S. Foundation for the Defence of the Unborn Life from Warsaw, which set up a tourist and retreat house here. Since 1998 the building has had its own chapel.

The fire and the rebuilding

On 7 January 2017 a fire broke out in the hut and put it out of tourist use. Since 2017 it has been rebuilt and partly reopened. Before the fire the hut had 40 beds, a buffet and meals to order, and during the renovation 9 beds were available. The current range of services has to be checked directly with the operators.

Trails to Chrobacza Łąka

The Little Beskids Trail (Mały Szlak Beskidzki) runs over Chrobacza Łąka, on the stretch from Bielsko-Biała Straconka through Gaiki and Przełęcz u Panienki to the Porąbka Dam. The second described approach leads from Kozy through Przełęcz u Panienki.

In the area lies the quarry in Kozy, and by the water you can go to Lake Czaniec.

Practical information

• Location: Międzybrodzie Bialskie, below the summit of Chrobacza Łąka in the Little Beskids.
• Access: on foot along the Little Beskids Trail from Bielsko-Biała or from Kozy.
• The range of accommodation and meals has changed since the fire, so phone the hut before setting out.
