The largest and oldest city park in Rybnik, laid out at the end of the 19th century, covering almost 7 ha, with a fitness trail.
Kozie Góry Park is one of the largest and oldest city parks in Rybnik. It lies in the Meksyk district by Chwałowicka street, covers almost 7 hectares and has strongly undulating terrain.
The park was laid out at the end of the 19th century on the initiative of Juliusz Haase, owner of a leather factory. After a tragic accident at his factory in which several workers died, Haase decided, by way of atonement, to donate 1.2 hectares of land to the town for a park. The deed of gift was signed on 12 January 1888. The year of the park's founding is, however, taken to be 1905, when the Rybnik authorities enlarged it with land of their own. The park's 100th anniversary was marked in September 2005.
Broadleaved trees dominate the park: oak, small-leaved lime, European ash, common beech, poplar, silver birch, weeping willow, rowan, chestnut and hornbeam. Among birds you may see house sparrow, collared dove, great tit, jay, magpie and blackbird. A feature of the park is a fitness trail with exercise equipment.
Near the park are the Rybnik Museum (about 1.5 km as the crow flies) and the Basilica of St Anthony (about 1.8 km).
