An amusement park in the Silesian Park in Chorzów, operating since 1959 as the Silesian Funfair and since 2017 as the Legendia theme park.
Legendia is an amusement park in the Silesian Park in Chorzów, on the border with Katowice, covering about 26 hectares according to the park's website. It has operated since 1959 as the Silesian Funfair (Śląskie Wesołe Miasteczko), which is described as the oldest funfair in Poland. It has had its present name since 2017.
Construction began in 1956. The chief designer was W. Niemirski, and the site development plan was prepared by W. Chojnacki and Kazimierz Kotowski. Work was carried out in stages, waiting for the ground, disturbed by coal extraction, to settle. The first visitors entered the park in September 1959.
Already in 1960 there were 63 rides. According to the park's website, on weekdays an average of six thousand people came, and on holidays about fifty thousand. The largest ride since the beginning has been the Large Aeroplanes (Samoloty Duże), suspended from a 45-metre tower. In 1978 a Ferris wheel was added, today Legendia Flower, which is 40 metres high.
In 2007 the first roller coaster in Poland with a double loop, 21 metres high, was built. In 2014 26 rides were bought from the Danish funfair Sommerland Syd. Since 2015 the park has been managed by the company Tatry Mountain Resorts.
In 2017 the funfair became a theme park, drawing on legends, fairy tales and stories. That year the 40-metre steel coaster Lech Coaster was also opened. In 2018 Bazyliszek was launched, an interactive dark ride of 1,000 m², which has won several industry awards. In 2020 the water attraction Dolina Jagi (Jaga's Valley) was opened.
According to the park's website there are over 40 rides for children, families and thrill-seekers. Around the Koźlok pond five themed zones have been set out: Magical Village, Magical Forest, Valley of Dreams, Magical Mountains and Adventures Valley.
The rides include two roller coasters, Diabelska Pętla (Devil's Loop) and Lech Coaster, and two water rides, Diamond River and Dolina Jagi. In 2016 Diamond River was opened in the Magical Mountains zone, themed as a diamond mine watched over by the legendary Skarbnik (the spirit of the mine). There are also rides for the youngest, shooting galleries, mini car tracks and dry ball pits.
Legendia lies in the Silesian Park, so the rest of the grounds can be seen on the same visit.
Nearby is the Silesian Zoological Garden.
Not far away also stands the Upper Silesian Ethnographic Park.
