Park in the Osada Jana district of Tarnowskie Góry, laid out in the mid-1970s on the site of former ore mining and a gravel pit.
Piny Park lies in the Osada Jana district of Tarnowskie Góry, the former 25th Anniversary of People's Poland estate. It was laid out in the mid-1970s, and its varied terrain is a trace of former mining.
The name refers to pingi, shallow, funnel-shaped depressions from a few to a dozen or so metres deep. They formed during open-cast ore extraction or when old shafts collapsed. Between the 16th and 18th centuries iron and lead ores were extracted here. Around the depressions there are often small hills known as warpie.
The park was created as part of the reclamation of the northern part of a gravel pit, worked from the 19th century until the end of the 1960s. The trees and shrubs were planted, the paths laid out and the amphitheatre built as voluntary community work by employees of Tarnowskie Góry factories. At the turn of the 1980s and 1990s the park began to fall into ruin, and the pond in its northern part dried up. Today the site is looked after by local associations, which organise clean-up days.
It is not far from the park to the Royal Fryderyk Mine and the town centre.
