A monastery from the 1930s in Panewniki with chapels, a memorial room of Blessed Edmund Bojanowski and a missionary museum.
The Provincial House of the Sisters Servants (Sisters Servants of the Blessed Virgin Mary Immaculate) stands at ulica Panewnicka 63 in the Ligota-Panewniki district of Katowice. It is a monastery, the mother house of the Katowice province of the Silesian Sisters Servants, and also a retreat and formation house with a public chapel. It was built in the 1930s.
The building land was bought in 1932, and work was symbolically begun on 17 August 1934. The foundation stone was set in the wall of the chancel of the future chapel on 14 May 1936. In 1941 the German occupation authorities took over the unfinished building and set up warehouses, offices and an archive in it, and the Upper Silesian Gauleiter Fritz Bracht had a command post here. The sisters moved in in 1949-1950: first the novitiate was transferred, and in 1950 the seat of the provincial administration.
There are, among others, the convent chapel of Our Lady Immaculate, the retreat chapel of Our Lady of Fatima and the public chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, opened to the faithful in 1956. In the monastery garden runs a Way of the Cross, and in front of the main entrance stands a monument to Blessed Edmund Bojanowski, founder of the congregation. The facade is decorated with a figure of the Virgin Mary carved by Zygmunt Brachmański. The grounds also house a memorial room of Blessed Edmund Bojanowski, a missionary museum with artefacts from Cameroon, a monastery library and a kindergarten.
