Brick water tower, 30 m high, on the grounds of Katowice's main station, completed in 1951 on the site of an earlier one.
The railway water tower stands on the grounds of the main railway station in central Katowice, at the eastern end of platform two. It is 30 metres high and built of brick.
Before the Second World War an earlier tower stood on the same spot. The present one was completed in 1951. Until the mid-1970s it supplied water to the railway junction and nearby buildings. The structure also housed rooms for conductors and signalmen, and a post for train announcers.
At the end of May 2015 PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe announced a plan for developing the tower: catering was to be created on the upper floors, and offices, art galleries and architects' studios lower down. Nothing came of the plans. In October 2025, in agreement with the heritage conservator, renovation began, covering strengthening of the structure, cleaning of the facade and replacement of the joinery and roof covering.
