A park on a hill in Chorzów, with a monument to Count von Reden since 1853, next to the Upper Silesian Ethnographic Park.
Reden Hill Park lies on a hill in Chorzów that used to be called Reden Hill (Góra Redena) and is today called Liberation Hill (Góra Wyzwolenia). The hill is 321 metres above sea level and is one of the highest points in the town. The park neighbours the Upper Silesian Ethnographic Park.
The hill takes its name from Count Friedrich Wilhelm von Reden, who in 1791 founded the “Krug” mine in what is now Chorzów. In 1853 a monument to him was unveiled in the new park on the hill, in the presence of the King of Prussia. The park was then called Reden Park.
The monument had a turbulent history. It was destroyed in July 1939, rebuilt during the war, and after 1945 destroyed again in unexplained circumstances. Reden Hill is also shown in an engraving of 1860, in which the town is still called Königshütte.
