Foundations and a stone base of a wooden mountain hut from the 1930s, which burned down after two years.
On Magurka Wilkowicka in the Little Beskids, at an altitude of about 909 m above sea level, the remains of a tourist hut built by Robert Urbanke have survived. Fragments of the foundations and a stone base are all that is left of the building, so this is not a place for touring interiors but a trace of early mountain tourism.
The hut was built in the early 1930s. It was a single-storey wooden building on a stone base, with an attic. It operated for only two years, after which a fire destroyed it. Robert Urbanke did not give up on the idea: in 1935, together with his wife Aniela, he began building another hut, at Trzy Kopce.
Today mainly the remains of the stone base are visible. Without prior knowledge they are easy to mistake for ordinary stones in the terrain, so it is good to know the history of the place before setting out on the trail.
Not far away, about 300 m from the ruins, stands the active PTTK Mountain Hut on Magurka Wilkowicka. It is a good reference point when looking for the place where Urbanke's station stood.
